Moscow Bars: Kitay-Gorod, Myasnitskaya, Pyatnitskaya and Tverskaya – Where to Go Out at Night

Moscow has a few streets where bars stand literally door to door. If you don't know where to go tonight, start with these: even without a plan, it's easy to find a place to match your mood.
Kitay-Gorod, Maroseyka and Pokrovka
The best-known bar district in the centre. From Kitay-Gorod metro station, Maroseyka and Pokrovka streets run uphill, surrounded by the lanes of Ivanovskaya Gorka. You'll find everything here: tiny ten-seat cocktail bars, "secret" bars behind unmarked doors, wine bars, live music venues and karaoke. An evening here often turns into a walk from one bar to the next.
Tip: on Fridays and Saturdays after 9 pm free tables are scarce – it's easier to come early or pick a weeknight.
Myasnitskaya and Chistye Prudy
Between Lubyanka and Chistye Prudy runs one of Moscow's main bar streets. There are plenty of clubs and places where the night goes on until morning, while nearby, by the Chistye Prudy pond, you'll find calmer bars with terraces and the boulevard right outside.
Pyatnitskaya and Zamoskvorechye
Pyatnitskaya means bars and restaurants in old merchant houses, cosy courtyards and an easy place to meet friends after work. Novokuznetskaya and Tretyakovskaya stations are close by, so the evening combines easily with a walk around Zamoskvorechye.
Tverskaya and Patriarch's Ponds
Tverskaya and the lanes around it are home to more upscale bars: gastro bars, wine bars and signature cocktails. Patriarch's Ponds is a few minutes' walk away and has its own rhythm – quiet evenings and bars made for long conversations.
Secret and basement bars of Kitay-Gorod
Many bars in the area are hidden: an unmarked door in a courtyard, a staircase down to the basement of an old house, a doorbell with no sign. People search for them as "secret bar" or "speakeasy in Kitay-Gorod". Inside they're usually small and intimate – 15–30 guests – so on weekend evenings it's better to book ahead.
Where is the "bar street"
The "bar street" usually means the stretch from Kitay-Gorod metro up Maroseyka and Pokrovka, plus the lanes around them – Petroverigsky, Starosadsky, Khokhlovsky. In one evening you can walk between several places without going back to the metro.
Budget-friendly bars
There are affordable bars in the area too – mostly in the side lanes, away from the main streets. A good sign: if cocktails on the menu cost noticeably less than on Pokrovka and the room looks more like a pub, you're in the right place. The cheapest evenings are weekdays before 8 pm, when many places run special offers.
Bars with music, karaoke and dancing
On Friday and Saturday nights DJs play across the area, and some bars have live music and karaoke rooms. If you want to dance, head towards Myasnitskaya; if you'd rather listen to music quietly, choose a small vinyl bar in the lanes.
Wine bars
For a quiet evening as a couple or with a friend, try a wine bar – there are many on Pokrovka and around Chistye Prudy. You can usually order by the glass rather than the bottle, with small plates on the side.
How to pick a bar for the night
- A date – a small cocktail bar or a wine bar with dim lighting.
- A group of friends – a bar with a big table or karaoke.
- Dancing – Myasnitskaya and the clubs of Kitay-Gorod.
- A quiet talk – Patriarch's Ponds, Chistye Prudy, Pyatnitskaya.
How creators get invited to bars
In the private INVITN club, Moscow bars publish invitations for creators: a cocktail set, an evening with a deposit, a tasting. The terms are visible upfront – the date, what's included, whether you can bring a guest. The creator comes as a guest and shares their impressions in Stories. Creators are selected by hand, and Instagram statistics are checked automatically.
