How Much Does It Cost to Invite an Influencer to a Restaurant, Salon or Hotel – and How to Pay Less

Sooner or later every restaurant, café or salon owner asks the same question: how much does it cost to invite an influencer? The answer depends on how you invite them – for money or through barter. Here's how both work, what drives the price and how not to overpay.

Two ways to work with an influencer

Paid promotion. You pay the creator a fee for a post, Story or Reel. Often the visit itself comes on top – so you pay both in cash and in product.

Barter. You don't pay a fee – you give the product itself: a dinner, a treatment, a night at the hotel. The creator comes as a guest and shares an honest impression.

Typical influencer rates

Every creator sets their own price, and it varies by country, niche and engagement. Commonly cited industry ranges for one Instagram feed post look like this:

  • Nano (1–10k followers) – about $10–100, and many work only through barter;
  • Micro (10–50k) – about $100–500;
  • Mid-tier (50–500k) – about $500–5,000;
  • Macro (500k–1M) – about $5,000–10,000;
  • Mega (1M+) – $10,000 and up.

A set of Stories usually costs less than a feed post, while a Reel or short video costs more – it takes shooting, editing and music. Rates in big, expensive cities like London, New York or Dubai sit at the top of these ranges.

Prices depend heavily on the market. In Russia and other CIS countries the same audience size costs noticeably less – a local creator with up to 10k followers typically asks around 5,000 ₽ (roughly $50–60) for a set of Stories, and in regional cities even less.

Keep in mind: you're paying for a publication, not for guests.

What drives the price

  • Audience size and engagement – real reactions and comments matter more than follower count;
  • Where the audience lives – local followers can come in this week, while followers from other cities will remember your place, save the Story and come back to it when they plan a trip. Both are useful – just know which one you need right now;
  • Format – Stories are cheaper than Reels, a feed post is priced separately;
  • Season – rates go up before holidays and in high season at resorts;
  • Exclusivity – asking a creator not to promote competitors costs extra.

What barter actually costs

With barter, the venue doesn't take money out of the till – it gives its own product, and that product costs the venue less than it costs the guest. Count by cost price, not menu price: a dinner for two that's $100 on the menu costs the restaurant noticeably less – ingredients and kitchen time – and that's the number to compare with an ad invoice.

In the Middle East the scale is different. In Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Doha venues usually offer a much bigger visit than in Europe or Russia – a full brunch for two, a day at a beach club, a night at a resort – and creators expect that level. Plan your offer value with the local market in mind.

In return you get:

  • a post with a tag – usually 2–3 Stories;
  • an honest recommendation the audience trusts more than an ad;
  • photos and videos you can use on your own social media.

When each option makes sense

Barter works well for restaurants, cafés, bars, salons, clinics and hotels – anything you can show through personal experience. Paid promotion makes sense when you need a big creator's reach on a specific date: an opening, a menu launch, a campaign.

Many venues combine the two: regular barter with local creators, and paid posts only for key events.

How not to overpay

  • look at engagement and where the audience lives, not just follower count;
  • ask for statistics: audience location and Story views;
  • don't ask for too many formats – it scares off good creators;
  • agree on terms upfront: what the visit includes and what content you expect;
  • start with several smaller creators rather than one big one.
